If the Sierra de Guara has a signature sporty route, it is the Peonera. Warm limestone, a long sequence of jumps and slides, and pools you are genuinely happy to swim make it the canyon most people remember from a Guara trip. It is demanding enough to feel like an achievement and forgiving enough to enjoy every metre.

Highlights

  • A long string of jumps and natural slides
  • Warm, swimmable Mediterranean water
  • Sculpted limestone in classic Guara style
  • A true full-day adventure

The approach

Routes start from access points near Alquézar, with a walk-in that warms you up before the first obstacles. A car shuttle is usually needed between entry and exit.

The descent

The Peonera links jumps that must be inspected for depth, polished slides demanding good body position, and warm swims that let you recover between efforts. It is sustained rather than technically extreme — fitness and good judgement matter more than rope wizardry.

Good to know

  • Check current depths before every jump — pools shift
  • Heat on the approach is real; carry water
  • Very popular; an early start beats the crowds
