The Chalamy is one of the western Alps' most enjoyable introductory canyons: clean granite, transparent pools and a sequence of short, well-equipped rappels in a beautiful mountain setting. It is the kind of route that turns a curious hiker into a committed canyoneer over a single sunny afternoon.

Highlights

  • Clean alpine granite and clear pools
  • Short, confidence-building rappels
  • A stunning Aosta Valley backdrop
  • Easy logistics and a quick approach

The approach

A short walk from the road in the Champdepraz valley leads to the entry, with a simple return path afterward.

The descent

Expect a friendly mix of short rappels, easy down-climbs and clear pools, with optional small jumps. The water is cool alpine snowmelt, so a wetsuit keeps the day comfortable, but nothing here is committing.

Good to know

  • Cool snowmelt water; bring proper neoprene
  • Flow rises quickly after summer storms
  • Within a protected nature park — respect the rules
