Behind the Riviera, the Gorges du Loup deliver one of France's most photographed canyoning days: a sequence of clean jumps, long natural slides and a big rappel, all within easy reach of Nice and Cannes. It is justly popular, which means it can be crowded, but the quality of the obstacles keeps drawing people back.

Highlights

  • Long natural toboggans
  • Clean, photogenic jumps
  • A big signature rappel
  • Easy access from the Riviera

The approach

A moderate walk-in leads from the parking area to the canyon entry, with a return path back up the valley afterward.

The descent

The descent strings together slides and jumps with a notable rappel that can reach around forty metres. Several jumps are committing and must be inspected for depth; the slides demand correct body position to avoid injury.

Good to know

  • Very crowded in peak summer — go early
  • Always check pool depth before jumping
  • Some sections are guided commercially; expect groups
